Today is the day for the co-op survival sandbox Valheim to end its five year-long early access trudge and make its way into full release. The game’s 1.0 update is officially live, bringing along with it some new items, a dangerous new biome, and some new gameplay additions for all of you digital Vikings out there.
One of the centerpieces for the release is the Deep North biome, described by developer Iron Gate as a cold and hostile region wrought with ancient evils and lurking threats, including several new foes that players will have to contend with. Basically this all reads like a late-game region, so have care.
The release also boasts over 40 new weapons, new armor sets, new tools, over 10 additional creatures, over 80 new buildable pieces including five new crafting-related build pieces, and a lengthy list of fixes and improvements. There are additional new mechanics as well, such as the need to clear snow from certain regions, invading jotun, a new grappling hook that players can use, and inventory upgrades.
These are just a few of the many, many additions outlined in the patch notes, though bear in mind many of them are put behind spoiler bars; they can be moused over for those who want every granular detail, but if you’d rather go in without too much foreknowledge, you absolutely can. Also make sure to tune in to OPTV tonight at 8:00 p.m. EDT when MJ hops into the game.
